Wegmans is in Virginia Beach, so wave goodbye to your paycheck!

You should already know this, unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past month, but Hampton Roads has a Wegmans * blows confetti cannon * !! Fun fact: this is their 99th store in the US and the 12th in Virginia. Ask anyone from upstate New York and they will tell you that Wegmans is the best grocery store out there, and I definitely agree.

Walking into a Wegmans is like visiting your rich friends house for the first time. You expect it to be nice, but you just aren’t prepared for how amazing everything is. Picture it: you’re a little overwhelmed while looking at all the things, staring at them like its a car accident on the side of the road. You ask yourself….do I need a jar of caviar or cave ripened cheese, or maybe a charcuterie board for that picnic I’ll never have? I think my home would look just as a good with a bouquet of flowers in the foyer. To get to the point, Wegmans is a beautiful place with so much to offer.

I was glad that I could meet with a member of their marketing team prior to the store prior opening and get some insight on some things I thought you’d want to know.

What is exclusive to the Virginia Beach location?

Ube Donuts, Nashville Hot Chicken and local favorite Smores Amore are a few. The Burger bar will also sell Orange Crushes.

For the foodies- What are your top 3 places to eat in the Market Cafe and what would you order?

  1. Sushi

  2. Fresh Salad Station - El Jefe: Organic Baby Kale and Romaine with Avocado, Roasted Corn, Organic Black Bean, Red Pepper, Sliced Radish, Pickled Red Onion, Queso Fresco, Crushed Tortilla and Lime Vinaigrette

What do you all do for the community and how do you reduce waste?

Of our 5 giving principles the #1 is feeding the hungry. Through the Zero Waste program we donate to food banks, scraps are diverted from landfills by using them as feed for local livestock, and any remaining scraps are composted.

In 2017, we donated over 14.5 million pounds of food. Prior to opening our Virginia we donated 17K pounds to the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia.
